Ingredients

red gram - 150 g
( you can also use chana gram )
raw rice - 2 tsp
chopped onion - 1
chopped carrot - 1
chopped curry leaves - 2 tsp
asafoetida - pinch
turmeric pdr - pinch
dry chili - 2
cumin seed - 1 tsp

Method

1.Soak red gram and rice for about 2 hours
2.Grind red gram, rice, chili, cumin seed, asafoetida, turmeric pdr without adding water.
( The dal should only be coarsely ground and it should not become a paste ). SEE VIDEO
3.Mix salt, onion, carrot, curry leaves with ground dal.
4.Let it stay for 30 minutes.
5.Heat the oil in a heavy bottom pan.
6.Take a small dumplings out of the dal and flatten them in between your palms. Now drop it into the hot oil.
7.Make sure to keep the heat between low medium.( If the heat is too high, the outer portion get cooked faster than the inner, you will end up with either burnt, or semi cooked vadas).
8.After getting golden brown colour you can remove it from the oil and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
